USHUAIA — Fin Del Mundo Patagonia ,Argentina . A walk with the Penguins

On Isla Martillo
The island where the penguin colonies are

January 2020, I was gifted with an unexpected leave and I decided to go to walk with the penguins. It was summer in Argentina. Ushuaia, is the largest last southern settlement. They call themselves the end of the world. There is a much smaller settlement a little south along the Beagle channel in Chile but does not have the romance of Ushuaia.

Its all Antarctica beyond Fin Del Mundo.

I traveled @ 6500 miles to walk with the penguins. Pira tour did not disappointment me at all. This is the only operator that you can use to walk on the Isla martillo where the penguins nest. They are used to the humans though they seems to know that ” they have the right of way”
The whole package, though my purpose was the walk, is worth the money.
It starts with a scenic drive in a luxury bus. The guides are very knowledgeable and fluent in Spanish and English.
After a visit to the marine museum at Estancia harberton , we took a dinghy to the island. After a fantastic walk ,where the only rule was, no touching the wild animals and keep with the group,we returned for some snacks at the local cafe.
Then we boarded the ship to travel the beagle channel which had it’s share of excitement ,watching sea lions on the Isla de los lobos and cormorants. We also sailed by the faro les Eclaireurs (light house). They provided piza on the ship.
All in all, an amazing trip. I would recommend it to anyone who is visiting Ushuaia.

Well that was a nice trip,my last one before the COVID19 hit us.

The only trip since then has been my trans continental trip from LAX to PIT in June. It was not an enjoyable one, sitting with a N95 mask for hours.

I hope I will be able to continue my journeys later this year or in 2021.
